So here is the situation. My Commercial Drivers License (CDL) is about to expire. To renew the "great minds" within the DMV require a new medical certificate. We guess what I'm on oxygen thanks to Covid-19 Delta. The DOT frowns on drivers driving with oxygen. It was a good day for me today. Low humidity and a pleasant day. Me and Rebecca went to the clinic. She asked what I was doing here. I told her I was going to get a DOT Physical so I don't loose my license. Problem 1 arose. The receptionist ran my cards (yes, multiple cards) and they all declined eventhough the apps all said they were good. There was a pastor there from Bluefield, He handed the lady his card while my back was turned. I was and am greatful!!
I did tell the doctor everything that was wrong with me (Well mostly, omitted the oxygen part) and that I had been hospitalized for Covid19. I told him I just needed a 3 month card to renew my licence. He gave me a year. Which is normal since I'm on a CPAP. My wife asked why not just get a regular license. If in the next 3 years I can drive again I would have to take a $6k training class.. It isn't happening.
Ok, here's the messed up part about the DMV. Once this physical expires next year. I still have 3 years to produce a valid physical at that time the DMV will downgrade me to a regular license. Why not do like other states, let us keep the CDL and sign a waiver stating we are not legal to drive commercial until we obtain a current physical. That would make more sense.
