The Raspberry Pi 4b has been configured with an auto hotspot script so I can VNC into the Raspberry Pi without internet service thanks to the script written by KM4ACK.

11/30/23

I now have a Raspberry Pi 4.0 8gb single board computer connected to my FT991A to operate FT8 remotely thru VNC connection from my bedroom (the shack) to my home office. It works great!!! Eventually, it will be permanently mounted and power wired into the 6U Rack box that my FT991A is mounted in.

I was also able to get the GPS dongle, that I have been trying to get to work for 3 years, operational!!! AGAIN, thanks to KM4ACK..

Well, I'm back!!! After a long battle with covid19 I'm back on the air. Check back often because I am updating daily.

The weather station will be offline for approximately 2 weeks due to a change of internet serice providers and my vacation.

6/26/2007

The weather station is now sending the data to APRS with two callsigns, KD8CAP and KD8CAP-1. KD8CAP send it directly to the internet via an IP connection. KD8CAP-1 send the data via an RF radio connection.  Both are making it to the internet fine on findu.com. There is one problem though. The data is not going to the recieving radio correctly. I believe the problem has been found and the sofware designer has been notified.

A KVM 2 port switch has been added to the station to remove one monitor to eliminate interference problems. This allows me to use a flat screen monitor, 1 keyboard, 1 mouse and 2 computers.

Well, after a month of diagnosing the weather station I believe we have it working correctly. Joe at Weatherbuffs.com is AWESOME. He stuck with me thru all the testing and even sent me a replacement rain bucket. Thanks Joe. So far so Good. Everything tested Ok in my shack so it is now out on the pole.

The weather station now has its own computer system.  It is an older HP Pentium with 310mb of ram. It works fine so far after being operational for about 12 hours with no hiccups. The software that is being used is Weather-Display. A trial version can be downloaded from weather-display.com...

A flat screen LCD monitor is on the way for the weather station/computer to be mounted on the wall out of the way off my my extremely cluttered desk!!!

UI-View (for weather reporting to APRS (Automatic Position Reporting System)) is also on this system but not totally operational as of yet. Weather display id not exporting the infomation to the APRS system correctly yet....

4/21/2007

The weather page is now online with the help of another webprovider.  goto http://greenacreswx.esmartguy.com or click on the weather link on this page. This site should update every 15-30 minutes.

4/20/2007

Wind speed and direction have been added to the weather station. Rain sensor is still not working correctly though.  APRS is down until I get another cable or get my other system operational.

4/11/2007

The weather station is almost in place. It is reporting the Barometer, Temperature, and Humidity.  The wind sensor and rain sensor need to be mounted and wired, hopefully this Sunday.  The weather is updated every 15 minutes in the internet on Findu.com (click here).

Well,Something I did not mention on the welcome page... I had planned to eventually add a weather station to my APRS station.  I am in the process of doing this now. I made a purchase of a WS-2310 last night. I should have it my 4/6/07.  It should be up and running next week.  I also got a great deal on some parachute cord, MILSPEC type for my antennas.  Goodbye el-cheapo Walmart stretchy nylon cord.
